Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the characteristics of the BMI of the administrative staff of the Instituto Superior Tecnológico de Formación in the year 2024, with the aim of providing a proposal to improve their nutritional health. The research presents a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design and a cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study. More than 70% of the personnel have a BMI above normal, which could indicate occupational health problems. The statistics of the present study support this assertion as there is a clear relationship between age and BMI. Weight and age correlated positively with BMI. Younger administrative staff presented BMI in the normal weight range, while the older age group 25 years and older represented 70.4% with BMI between overweight and obesity. The increase in BMI with age suggests that corrective and preventive measures are needed through the implementation of the institutional health surveillance plan, including nutrition programs and promotion of healthy lifestyles, a physical activity program, a mental health program, and a program for the prevention of chronic or noncommunicable diseases. The importance of keeping the workers of a company healthy, not only responds to governmental policies but also to the fact that having healthy personnel allows institutions and companies to be more productive, happier, and that allows them to work more efficiently.
