The research was conducted with a population of 60 sixth-level students enrolled in the Electromechanics program, PAO 01-2025, sections “A” and “B”, at the Instituto Tecnológico Superior Universitario Oriente, in the Industrial Automation course. The Factory I/O software tool was incorporated into the virtualization of industrial processes related to the field, using a Siemens S7-1200 PLC controller for simulation purposes. The objective was to evaluate the impact of integrating virtual environments and real controllers into the teaching–learning process within industrial settings. A practical experimental approach was employed, using diagnostic assessments such as pre-tests and post-tests to objectively measure the progress achieved by students throughout the academic term. The results showed a significant improvement in the understanding of industrial automation concepts, control systems, and industrial problem-solving. Students' motivation and comprehension also increased during the teaching–learning process. The combination of virtual environments and real PLCs represents an innovative and effective pedagogical strategy capable of linking the gap between theory and practice, strengthening the development of technical competencies and preparing future professionals to cope with the challenges and transformations of Industry 4.0.
