Abstract

Strategies focused on solving the drawbacks of a mature field must consider the decline in production, this is essential when establishing future investments, so as not to incur costs that make them lose competitiveness and profitability. Block 49 (B49) is an oil field with almost 50 years of exploitation, it suffers from the typical problems of a mature field, its production situate it as a marginal field (<3000 bbls/day) and requires a set of mechanisms to make it competitive in the current oil market conditions. An adequate management of the field and the implementation of an energy efficiency model were the axes to reduce production costs and achieve a barrel with a production cost of 5.20 USD. Problems such as the availability of gas, the limitation of gas flaring, the facilities to maintain pressure and the distribution of gas are issues that are addressed in this research.
