Abstract

The university, in the academic formation of the students fulfills a great task, in this new era the university has been assigned a new challenge focused on the development of research competences, that is why the areas of humanities and legal sciences are carried out in general studies and social, had the purpose of identifying the research competencies of the students, this understood as skills in the search for information, theoretical and methodological knowledge in the research works. The work developed with the quantitative approach, hypothetical deductive method, descriptive non-experimental design, with a sample of 160 students, the instrument validated by expert judgment and the trustworthiness by Cronbach’s alpha, the results were locked with descriptive statistical frequencies, percentages and levels, the study concludes: The research competencies students of general studies the areas of humanities and legal and social sciences of the national university of San Marcos, 2018, have developments at an average level with 58% equivalent to 83 students.
