This study analyzes perceptions regarding the use of virtual simulators as a pedagogical resource in industrial automation teaching within technical mechatronics education. The research was conducted in a technical high school institution located in Cuenca, Ecuador, in a context characterized by limited access to physical laboratories and industrial equipment. A quantitative descriptive approach with a non-experimental cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of 107 participants (55 teachers and 52 students) related to the technical mechatronics area. Data collection was carried out through a ten-item Likert-scale questionnaire. These results show that 88.8% of participants believe that simulators facilitate the understanding of industrial automation concepts, while 89.7% perceive that these tools allow technical practices to be performed without risking physical equipment. Additionally, limitations associated with institutional access to software and technological resources were identified. The conclusion is that virtual simulation represents a relevant complementary resource in technical education, in contexts with infrastructure and laboratory access limitations.
