The objective of this research is to evaluate best practices for designing three-dimensional seismic acquisition projects, using a basic model or conceptual design. The experience have advocated using techniques such as the "Rule of Thumb" to determine the depth of a target. According to several geophysicists, there is no exact formula for calculating ideal offsets. Therefore, the "Rule of Thumb" states: To obtain the target depth (d), the desired offsets will be between 1.25d and 1.50d. This rule has been verified on many projects and can be assured to adhere very well to the reality of the objectives in a seismic project. This is not a common piece of information; it is difficult to find and likely does not exist in geophysical literature, so it is considered important to share experiences and research. Finally, it must be recognized that geologically each area has different characteristics, so it is important to accurately and precisely know the data related to the area, such as: the depth of the target, the direction and dip of the structure, etc., in order to design the most appropriate seismic project, which in the future will help solve problems and reduce uncertainty through decision-making such as the correct location and drilling of new wells.
