Abstract

The administration of high-risk medications is a task that the nursing professional performs, which requires technical and scientific skills and knowledge for its correct administration, since it has various therapeutic groups that have a high potential to cause harm to the patient in the hospital environment. Objective: To identify competencies in the administration of high-risk medications in nursing professionals, as well as to diagnose competencies and determine knowledge about precautions in the administration of high-risk medications in nursing students in the seventh semester. Methodology: The research was carried out with a quantitative approach, descriptive level, non-experimental – cross-sectional design, type of field and documentary research. using databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and ScienceDirect. Results: More than 70% of the students surveyed possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities in the administration of high-risk medications.  Conclusions: The administration of high-risk medications is a task that nursing professionals perform, which requires technical and scientific skills and knowledge for their correct administration, since they have various therapeutic groups that have a high potential to cause harm to the patient in the hospital environment.
