Abstract

Art education at different levels of Ecuadorian education has faced methodological and teacher training challenges for many years, topics widely discussed in various national studies. However, this systematic review is proposed with the objective of exploring recent studies on new teaching methodologies for the arts, as well as the curriculum and its application in formal education settings. The PRISMA manual was applied in the review, using search terms across two databases, resulting in the collection of 1,871 articles. These were filtered based on selection and exclusion criteria, considering the research objectives and the question posed, yielding 16 studies. The themes addressed in these investigations approach art from several perspectives: first, as an innovative strategy for pedagogical processes, in addition to using it as a mediating tool for teaching. The functionality of art for addressing social aspects is also explored, along with studies that focus on teacher training in the arts and how this subject is included within the curriculum.
