Abstract

Introduction: The intensive care unit is an area where patients lose their autonomy and require nursing professionals to supplement their activities. Not only the work part affects the professional but there are other factors that can generate musculoskeletal disorders. Objective: Determine the factors that generate musculoskeletal disorders in nursing professionals in the intensive care unit. Method: Meta-analysis based on the analysis of 14 articles found in databases, which have been selected using search terms and applying the PRISMA algorithm. Results: The female population has a higher prevalence of developing musculoskeletal disorders. Physical or ergonomic risk factors predominate in the development of musculoskeletal disorders. 92.85% mention pain as the main symptom. There are several areas or body segments that are affected when the nursing professional develops musculoskeletal disorders; the lumbar area, followed by the shoulder, neck, among others. Conclusions: The factors that generate musculoskeletal disorders in nursing professionals are still present, increasing the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries, therefore, identifying them is a multidisciplinary work, which can help prevent and minimize behaviors that are causing it.
