This research addresses the significance of the implementation and promotion of citizen competencies cataloged by UNESCO as imperative in the 21st century, in the context of Ecuador. This exhibition is based on statistics and concrete data, highlighting the importance of critical spirit, social connectivity, respect for diversity and ethics in the population, and its influence on aspects that range from training in the classrooms, referred to national reality, to geopolitical and security considerations of the country. The methodology adopted to carry out this research involves the use of conceptual cartography as an organizational tool, facilitating the structuring of information from various sources, predominantly bibliographic in nature; and criteria of students who are taking the subject of National Reality at the University of the Armed Forces ESPE. The results obtained not only contribute to the promotion of these skills, but also serve as a starting point for the study that their benefits, along with new citizen skills, can generate both for the State and for the Ecuadorian society.
